Outdoor IP Camera
Do you want to keep your home, business premises, or property well-secured? Then an outdoor IP camera is a smart and future-proof choice. Of course, you also want to keep a close eye on what’s happening around your property in the evening or during bad weather. Maybe you’re unsure about which brand is best, how many megapixels you need, or how high you’re actually allowed to mount a camera. We understand that.
In this guide, we’ll explain everything clearly and in detail, just as if you were standing right here in our showroom in Gorinchem. That way, you’ll discover which outdoor IP camera best suits your situation.
What is an outdoor IP camera?
An outdoor IP camera is a security camera that transmits footage over a network (IP stands for Internet Protocol) to a recorder, app, or computer. Instead of an old-fashioned analog connection, this camera operates digitally via a network cable (Ethernet).
That sounds technical, but in practice it’s simple:
You connect the camera with a single network cable, and you can view live footage or review recordings via your smartphone or monitor.
Our outdoor models are:
-
Weatherproof (resistant to rain, wind, and cold)
-
Equipped with night vision (good to even superior visibility in the dark)
-
Available with PoE (Power over Ethernet)—one cable for both power and video
-
ONVIF-compatible (40 models), so they often work with other systems
Which outdoor IP camera is right for you?
On this page, you can easily filter by your preferences. Consider:
Brand
We carry, among others:
-
Hikvision – professional and highly reliable
-
Dahua – great value for the price
-
Reolink – user-friendly and popular with homeowners
-
Eufy – smart solutions with app integration
Can’t decide between brands? We’d be happy to show you the difference in image quality at our showroom in Gorinchem.
Type of security camera
You can choose from various models:
-
Bullet camera – the recognizable elongated model, ideal for visible deterrence.
-
Dome camera – compact and vandal-resistant.
-
Turret camera – sleek design, less prone to glare in the dark.
-
Panoramic camera – extra-wide field of view, useful for large areas.
Consider, for example, a retail space where you want to maintain a clear view of the entrance even at night. In that case, a turret or bullet camera with 8 megapixels and superior night vision is often a great solution.
Outdoor camera resolution: how sharp does the image need to be?
You can choose from:
-
4 megapixels
-
5 megapixels
-
8 megapixels (4K)
-
12 megapixels
For an average driveway or backyard, 4 or 8 megapixels is often more than enough. Do you want to recognize faces or license plates from a greater distance? Then we recommend 8 or 12 megapixels.
More megapixels mean a sharper image, but also more storage space. We’re happy to help you find the right balance.
Wired or Wi-Fi?
Most of the outdoor IP cameras in our lineup are wired (Ethernet with PoE).
Why? Because a cable is simply more stable. No dropped Wi-Fi signals, no interference. With PoE, everything runs through a single cable. That makes installation straightforward and reliable.
There is one Wi-Fi model available, but for permanent outdoor installations, we almost always recommend a wired solution.
What’s the best outdoor IP camera?
There’s no single “best” outdoor IP camera. It depends on your specific situation.
Do you want maximum reliability and professional image quality? Then a model from Hikvision or Dahua with 8MP and PoE is an excellent choice.
Are you looking for a user-friendly solution for home use? Then Reolink or Eufy might be the perfect fit.
Key considerations:
-
Night vision (good, better, or superior)
-
Audio or no audio (microphone or microphone + speaker)
-
Mounting: wall or ceiling
-
SD card support (38 models support this)
With the right choice, you can be sure you won’t miss a thing.
How high can an outdoor camera be mounted?
A frequently asked question: How high can you mount an outdoor camera?
According to privacy regulations (GDPR), you may film your own property, but not systematically film public roads or your neighbors.
In practice, we recommend:
-
2.5 to 4 meters in height
-
Angled slightly downward
-
Aimed at your own property
If you mount the camera too low, it’s more vulnerable to tampering.
If you mount it too high, you’ll lose detail in faces.
That might sound complicated, but during a consultation, we’ll simply assess your situation together.
Why choose Alarmsysteemexpert?
We don’t just supply cameras—we work with you to find the best solution.
